School Gardens
Pocketful of Joy has collaborated with each school to created organic school gardens. Through these projects, students both learn about gardening and recieve vegetables to bring home to their families. We’ve also begun growing coffee and eventually hope to sell it locally, creating a source of revenue for Pocketful of Joy projects.
Current crops being cultivated include: corn, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, potatoes, pineapple, cabbage, coffee and more.
Though this program we…
- employ three people from the local community as care takers of the gardens
- improve student health at home
- provide vegetables for students and their families
